We are proud to announce that your fundraising efforts paid off, as we took in over $237,000 to help clients affected by lung cancer. We would like to congratulate all of our participants for your hard work in helping us surpass our goal and continue to provide help and hope to people facing lung cancer. Thank you to our generous sponsors, in-kind donors, vendors, friends, and community partners for making this event a huge success.

Win Boerckel, LCSW-R, CancerCare’s National Lung Cancer Program Coordinator, served as the event’s emcee along with CancerCare CEO Helen H. Miller, LCSW and Lung Cancer Walk for Hope Committee Chairman, John Evans. Win welcomed 69 teams in addition to hundreds of individual participants and VIPs including longtime CancerCare friend and supporter, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto, Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker, and new friend to CancerCare, Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Rebecca Alesia. CancerCare was honored with an official Town of Oyster Bay Citation presented by Councilwoman Alesia for coordinating the Annual Lung Cancer Walk for Hope each year and bringing together friends and families in the community.

The feelings were strong and the day was memorable as we honored lung cancer survivor Phyllis Sobel with the “Ann Koelbel Top Fundraiser Award” for raising more than $18,455 in support of our free services. Phyllis also received the “Marcia Pearl Award for Outstanding Outreach” for sending out over 740 emails to recruit walkers and fundraise for the Walk! Phyllis, along with her team of lung cancer survivors, For Our Heroes, raised $44,790 to date, and the donations are still rolling in. Nice work, For Our Heroes—you truly are all heroes to us!
