Post-Treatment Survivorship

Participants at our Ninth Annual Lung Cancer Walk for Hope in Long Island, NY

This month, CancerCare will present the first of a four-part workshop series on survivorship. The Tenth Annual Cancer Survivorship Series: Living With, Through & Beyond Cancer covers the emotional and practical concerns that can arise after cancer treatment ends. The series is presented in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, LIVESTRONG, the American Cancer Society, Intercultural Cancer Council, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.

Coping with Cancer as a Young Adult

This week, April 2–8, is National Young Adult Cancer Week. CancerCare offers free, professional support services that address the unique concerns of young adults, including counseling, support groups, education, and financial assistance.

Do you live in the New York City area? On April 17, CancerCare is hosting a wellness event for young adults affected by cancer at our national office in New York. Whether you are a patient, a survivor, a caregiver, or are coping with the loss of a loved one to cancer, this workshop will provide helpful guidance on how to better cope. Walkers at the 2011 Walk for Hope in Milford, PA

CancerCare hosts more than 20 fundraising events each year that bring together individuals and communities. Join us on:

  • April 21 for our Third Annual Walk for Hope in Milford, PA. Participants will enjoy a walk through historic Milford, along with entertainment, door prizes, and refreshments.
  • May 16 for the Festival of Hope Gala at The Park Savoy in Florham Park, NJ, to honor healthcare luminaries who help people coping with cancer.

In addition, CancerCare is a beneficiary of other fundraising events around the country. Join us on:

  • May 5 for the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women in New York City. This major fundraiser attracts more than 40,000 participants in support of women facing cancer. Join CancerCare’s team today!
  • May 6 for the TD Five Boro Bike Tour. There are still slots available on the CancerCare team in this 40-mile pedal across New York City’s five boroughs.
  • May 20 for Zazzle Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, CA. Join our team on this historic 12K foot race from the Embarcadero to Golden Gate Park.

Team CancerCare is an online tool that helps you organize your own fundraising event to benefit CancerCare. Build awareness, recruit participants, and collect donations online in a secure environment.

New York City musician Emma Sky recently hosted a Team CancerCare fundraiser in memory of her mother, folk singer Rachel Bissex, who passed away from breast cancer. Emma organized a group of singer/songwriters and performed a benefit concert, raising $1,200 for our free, professional support services. Thank you, Emma!
