Managing Your Cancer

Free Support Groups

Connect with others coping with cancer through CancerCare’s support groups. Groups are available online and over the telephone. Face-to-face groups are available in our offices in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

We offer groups for patients, caregivers, loved ones, and those who have lost a loved one to cancer. All groups are led by professional oncology social workers and are completely free of charge.

To learn more and register for a support group, visit cancercare.org/support_groups or call 800-813-HOPE (4673).

For Professionals

Physicians Agree: Practical Support is Important to Patient Care

Three in four physicians agree that the health care system should pay for costs that address their patients’ social needs, such as access to nutritious food, transportation assistance, and housing assistance, according to a new survey from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Read more about the survey's results.

CancerCare offers limited financial assistance for cancer-related costs, including transportation to and from treatment, and child care.

Listen to our recent Connect Education Workshop, Managing the Costs of Living with Cancer, for tips on finding resources for financial help.

In Your Words

“I wanted to talk to people who had gone through what I’d just gone through. Being able to talk to people [in my support group] who had been there and could understand where I was coming from was totally what I needed.”

—Cynthia B., coping with lung cancer
